What has helped Dr. Ikar Kalogjera to be recognized as one of America’s Top Psychiatrists by the Consumers Research Council of America since 2002 has been his ability to treat his patients through therapeutic methods, as well as with medicine. While many of his peers treat their patients solely with prescription medication, Dr. Kalogjera examines the problems that plague people’s minds and mental health through various lenses. With more than 43 years of practiced experience in the field, he is a trusted name and is honored for professional longevity. He has managed and worked as a psychiatrist of his private practice, Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since 1981. In addition, he has helped prepare future generations of mental health practitioners as a clinical professor of psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 2001 to 2020. Dr. Kalogjera is board certified in psychiatry and child psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc., as well as board-certified in addiction medicine.
In his career, Dr. Kalogjera has served as the Director of Adolescent In-patient Service with the Medical College of Wisconsin and as a founding fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. He is also a founder and leader of the Milwaukee Group for the Advancement of Self-Psychology.
Prior to relocating to the United States, Dr. Kalogjera earned an MD from the University of Zagreb in Croatia in 1970. He interned at the university for an additional year before moving stateside and becoming a resident in psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He served as a fellow of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati from 1974 to 1976.
In addition to being ranked as one of America’s Top Psychiatrists, Dr. Kalogjera has also received Patients’ Choice Award, the On-Time Doctor Award, and been included in America’s Most Honored Professionals and the Top Ten Doctors in Wisconsin among many other accolades.
